It's okay to be sleepy
This one goes out to all of you out there with a rapidly depleting social battery!!!
Dear Jenn,
Imagine staying in instead of going out?
When the music is blaring, people are buzzing, and the lights are dimmed just right, the perfect opportunity presents itself.
Your eyes shift from left to right, your chin drops down to your chest, and your pace hastens. A small bead of sweat pools above your upper lip, as you breathlessly sneak out the door…thus achieving a flawless, goodbye-less goodbye.
“AH, the sweet taste of success”, you marvel. “How good it feels to be free!!!”
To rejoice in the incomparable accomplishment of re-claiming an evening you believed to be lost. To celebrate the realization of a reasonable bedtime. To bask in the carefully gauged temperature of a sober face wash. To prepare a healthy snack - trail mix, perhaps - as you devour an episode of Too Hot To Handle; Lana’s voice lulling you to sleep.
These simple evening activities are always within our midst, so why do we jump through hoops to circle back to where we started?
What about, if instead of sneaking away, we…just…stayed home?
